About GEI

The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute aims to protect human health and improve quality of life by enhancing indoor air quality and reducing people’s exposure to chemicals and other pollutants. As an ISO-IEC Guide 65:1996 accredited, third-party organization, the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) certifies products and materials for low chemical emissions and provides a resource for choosing healthier products and materials for indoor environments. All certified products must meet stringent chemical emissions standards based on established criteria from key public health agencies. GREENGUARD Certification is broadly recognized and accepted by sustainable building programs and building codes worldwide.

GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification Program

For products intended for use in schools, daycares or other environments where children spend significant periods of time, the GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification ProgramSM offers stricter certification criteria. It is referenced by both The Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Building Rating System. Products certified to this standard are also suitable for use in environments where children and others work, play or reside.

FSC is a global, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management worldwide. FSC facilitates the development of standards, ensures monitoring of certified operations and protects the FSC trademark so consumers can choose products that come from well managed forests. We enable businesses and consumers to make informed choices about the forest products they buy, and create positive change by engaging the power of market dynamics.

Chain of Custody Certification

Between the forest and the final consumer, forest products may undergo many stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution. FSC Chain of Custody certification verifies that FSC certified material is identified or kept segregated from non-certified material through this chain.

NAUF (No Added Urea Formaldehyde)

NAUF is reference to the type of resin that is used as a bonding agent in some types of plywood. Formaldehyde is an important industrial chemical used to make other chemicals, building materials, and household products. It is one of the large family of chemical compounds called volatile organic compounds or "VOCs". The term volatile means that the compounds vaporize, that is, become a gas, at normal room temperatures.

Lacey Act Compliance

In 2008, the U.S. Congress passed the Lacey Act prohibiting the import of illegally harvested wood and wood products into the United States. This groundbreaking legislation set a precedent for the global trade in wood flooring and other wood related products. This law leads the way in supporting other countries’ efforts to govern their own natural resources and ensures that only legally logged timber for flooring is sold into the United States. The Lacey Act puts in place powerful incentives for timber producing countries such as China, Russia, and Honduras to trade in wood products that come from legally logged sources or risk paying huge penalties.

All products sold by USFloors, Inc. are Lacey Act compliant.
